Summarize the purpose of your Genius Hour project in 140 characters.
The purpose of my genius hour was to raise awareness for self harm and eating disorders. you see a million and a half anti-suicide movements. but it is so rare to see and anti-self harm movement, when 95% of the time it is indeed the self harm that are warning signs. You can stop suicide before it happens. you just have to pay attention to the signs and not just turn you head when you see them.
Explain the process of your Genius Hour project. Be reflective. Be contemplative.
I believe my progress so far has been good. I had my pilot presentation and then I am on the road for bigger better presentations. I also have heard many good things about my speech. ranging from I really impacted someone to I should be speaking for a living. I feel as though I am already making a difference in people's lives and it makes me feel amazing.
Explain and describe your journey. (No Less Than Three FULL Paragraphs.)
I started with a different Genius hour project. It was a book that I had truly wanted to write but never could find the time or the patience. I have always been passionate about preventing self harm. It was something that I dealt with and saw every single day. It was difficult for me to get started but it needed to happen. So after a few weeks of talking to Mrs. Sutton I developed the idea for project life.
Knowing this wasn't going to be easy, and also that I couldn't just sit here and ramble off a million and a half facts that no one would truly care about, I mustered up the courage. And I told my story. Hoping that even if it was just a little eye opening as to just how serious this can be in the beginning stages and where it can go.
FInally I started setting up the presentations. And I finally got my final one up and on the road. It was a big success in my eyes and I am extremely proud of it. I have gotten nothing but great reviews and good comments. Thank you Mrs. Sutton for helping me pursue this.
The intention For Genius Hour is NOT only to learn, but ALSO to share your knowledge with others who can and will benefit from your learning. How did you share your learning? What do you hope the result might be? (No Less Than Two Full Paragraphs.)
I had my presentations and then I am hoping to continue these presentation into next year and maybe even further down the road. I am also getting Tee-shirts and bracelets with any hope. Honestly if I can help just one person in the process of this I will be so happy.
I am hoping that my results will be positive ones. I want to raise a revolution and put an end to self harm and eating disorders. Just because they aren't trying to take their own life, then want help. They can't take it anymore. So why just keep letting it go.
If you could do anything different with your Genius Hour project what would you do differently and why? (No less than two full paragraphs.)
If there was anything I could do different i would have started with my presentations a lot sooner so that i could already be doing them for the community. As I have said, this is something I am very passionate about. I would want to get as much spread around as I possibly can. I also would have collaborated with the Out Of The Darkness movement and hopefully gotten to be a part of their rally.
I also believe I would have found a way to get even more people involved in the movement. I feel as though the more people I get involved and the more exposure I can get the more impactful the cause will be.
Reflect on what you did well during this Genius Hour process? Note your successes and accomplishments. (No less than two full paragraphs.)
My presentation was a huge success. I know that I impacted quite a few people in the freshmen class, and a few teacher who saw my web page. I think the biggest success though, was simply being able to speak in front of the crowd. about a story then hurt me more than anything to remember. I think in that, telling my story was the biggest thing.
I have been told I touched at least one person who got to listen to my speech. I accomplished my goal. I have heard about a few. I had one tell me himself. It was about the best feeling I have ever felt. and I loved it. It made me feel like I was here for a reason now.
